THE FOLLOWING IS A CURRENT REFLECTION OF PAPILLON'S SOCIAL OUTREACH PROJECTS...
1. Feeding Scheme
(Associates: Afrox and Blue Ribbon Bakeries)
We feed on average 100 poor persons per day, and this includes pensioners, street-people, women and children. We also feed poor children in a partnership with the Salvation Army (approximately 350 children per week). Feeding times are daily from 12 to 1pm at the Papillon Centre in Rosettenville.
Buckets of soup are also collected for distribution to children in poor areas.
100 loaves of bread are distributed weekly to poor families in local schools.
2. Distribution Project
(Associates: Companies, Churches and Individuals)
We had recently donated 2 x 3 ton truckloads of goods to Projects in Orange Farm (which is a very large Informal Settlement).
7 Hospital Beds was donated to an A.I.D.S Hospice in Orange Farm.
Winter Clothing is distributed to orphans and the poor that attend our Feeding Scheme.
Clothing is also distributed to Soweto, Orange Farm and other areas.
The Papillon policy is that no goods that are donated to the Foundation are ever to be sold for any reason whatsoever, but rather to be distributed freely to those in need.
New Christmas Presents are given to 300 needy Children every December.
3. Human Rights Project
(Associates: Law Society, Lawyers for Human Rights, Human Rights Commission)
Serious cases such as abuse, violence, drug addiction, prostitution etc. are all assessed and referred to specialist partners in a network of service providers.
Home Affairs cases such as refugee permits and others are attended to by Papillon’s trained Para-Legal Officers at the Papillon Centre.
Final year Law students at Wits University are also assisting in a service-learning capacity at the Papillon Centre. A pro bono lawyer has now also joined the Project, and the Law Society of South Africa is now also assisting at Papillon with more Pro-Bono Lawyers in all areas.

Papillon is now registered as an International ICDL tutoring and Exam Centre and the first group of students (26) have started the course(2006).
COMMENT
The English Project and the Computer Project are delivering excellent results in the effective empowerment of persons for the job market, especially as each student receives an official University Certificate upon completion of the Courses. Entrepreneurs are also assisted.
It is however a priority that Papillon continues to focus in the empowerment of persons towards self-sustainability, and to this end the needs in the community are analyzed regularly.
The only way to effective community improvement is through the people, by the people so that in the end they can say that they did it all by themselves.
INTERIM REPORT JANUARY TO DECEMBER 2006
Founded in 2002, Papillon will be five (5) years old in December 2006.
Papillon’s Vision is to create better tomorrows from the ashes of today.
Papillon’s Mission is to empower people to transform their lives…and their communities.
This is accomplished by rolling up the sleeves and doing the work!
THANK YOU TO THE DEDICATED STAFF, BOARD, DONORS, ASSOCIATES, ORGANISATIONS AND INDIVIDUAL PERSONS WHO ASSIST PAPILLON, IT’S PEOPLE AND THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH PAPILLON WORKS.
